- What do I need to know to transition new staff members?
- How can I prepare a staff member for their specific job and responsibilities?
- How do I get a staff member oriented to the location at which s/he will be working?
- How do new staff members get oriented to the University and/or UI Health Care?
Onboarding is The University of Iowa’s process for welcoming and supporting new staff as they transition to a new job.
Supervisors and employees have access an array of useful just-in-time resources and information on the onboarding site. An additional supervisor resource is the New UI Supervisors: Starting Successfully online course in ICON.
A checklist to help you orient a staff member to the type and manner of work they will be doing, as well as the expectations of their work can be found at https://hr.uiowa.edu/careers/onboarding/new-employee-orientation/general-orientation-checklist.
View a sample checklist for introducing a staff member to the work area, the department or unit, and their colleagues.
New staff members will be invited to attend an orientation program that will provide them with an overview of information about the University (and/or UI Health Care) and pertinent benefit programs.
