If your research requires the use of controlled substances, approvals from both the Department of Inspections, Appeals, & Licensing (DIAL; formerly Iowa Board of Pharmacy) and the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) are required.
For guidance on the registration process and use of controlled substances, review the Environmental Health and Safety Office’s (EHS) Controlled Substances in Research website.
Contact the EHS or the Institute for Business and Professional Ethics (IBPE) for guidance on how much of the registration process may be completed before arriving at the University of Iowa.
