1. Who can help?
- Departmental or collegiate pre-award administrators can assist with the administrative components of the application. Find the pre-award research administrator for your department or college.
- Staff in the Division of Sponsored Programs can help interpret sponsor guidelines and address specific proposal questions.
2. Who is eligible to apply for external funding?
Under the University Policy Manual, only faculty (excluding adjunct, visiting, emeritus, and retired faculty), qualified professional and scientific staff, and postdoctoral scholars are automatically eligible to serve as principal investigators (PIs) on sponsored projects.
Adjunct, visiting, emeritus, and retired faculty must obtain approval from the vice president for research to serve as PI. Initiate the Request for Approval of Adjunct, Visiting, Emeritus, or Retired Faculty as PI workflow form in the Personnel section of records on the DSP Research Tracker.
