1. What do I need to know to transition new staff members?
Onboarding is The University of Iowa’s process for welcoming and supporting new staff as they transition to a new job. An overview of onboarding, and a phased plan for facilitating a new employee’s transition can be found at http://www.uiowa.edu/hr/onboardui/# (employee site).
Supervisors can go to GroupShare (requires your HawkID and password) to access an array of useful just-in-time resources and information. The FAQ Quick Links page, in the New Supervisor Resource Packet, may be especially useful. An additional supervisor resource is the New UI Supervisors: Starting Successfully online course in ICON.
2. How can I prepare a staff member for their specific job and responsibilities?
A checklist to help you orient a staff member to the type and manner of work they will be doing, as well as the expectations of their work can be found at http://www.uiowa.edu/learn/orientation/specchecklist.html.
3. How do I get a staff member oriented to the location at which s/he will be working?
A sample checklist for introducing a staff member to the work area, the department or unit, and their colleagues can be found at http://www.uiowa.edu/learn/orientation/gencklist.html.
4. How do new staff members get oriented to the University and/or UI Health Care?
New staff members will be invited to attend an orientation program that will provide them with an overview of information about the University (and/or UI Health Care) and pertinent benefit programs. Prior to attending an orientation, staff members can review an online resource that will introduce them to a number of programs, policies and practices that support our university community. This information can be found at http://www.uiowa.edu/learn/orientation/orientation.html.
